Privacy Policy
Book Nook (“Book Nook,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is a reading‑tracking app operated by Book Nook LLC, a Nevada limited liability company. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have.
By creating an account or using Book Nook, you agree to this Privacy Policy.
Who this applies to
Book Nook is intended for people 13 years of age or older. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. See “Children’s privacy” below.
Information we collect
We try to collect only what the app needs to work.
Account information.
- If you use Book Nook as a guest, we create an anonymous account so your progress can be saved. This does not require an email.
- If you create a full account (or upgrade a guest account), we collect your email address, a display name, and a securely hashed password. We never store your password in readable form.
- If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive a basic account identifier (and, depending on your settings, your email) from that provider to authenticate you.
Your reading & app data. Information you create by using the app, such as: the books you add, reading sessions and time tracked, reading goals, streaks, points balance, items you unlock, and how you decorate your nooks.
Reading integrations (optional). If you connect Readwise, we securely store an access token you provide (encrypted) and import the book highlights from your Readwise account. Your highlights stay private to your account.
Subscription status. If you subscribe to Book Nook Plus, we record that your account is a subscriber. Payments themselves are processed by the Apple App Store or Google Play — we do not receive or store your full payment card details.
Support & feedback. If you contact us or submit feedback, we (and our feedback provider, Featurebase) receive what you send, which may include your email address and any details you choose to include.
Friends (optional). If you add friends using an invite code, your friends can see your display name and avatar and, depending on your sharing settings, your recent reading activity and finished books. You control what is shared in the app’s Social settings, and you can unfriend or block at any time. Profiles are never publicly searchable.
Website & launch waitlist. Our website (getbooknook.com) is a simple informational site. If you join our launch waitlist, we collect the email address you submit and use it only to let you know when the app launches. You can ask us to remove you at any time by emailing support@getbooknook.com. The website and its form submissions are hosted and processed by Netlify.
Limited technical & usage data. Basic information needed to operate and secure the service (for example, error/diagnostic information), and first‑party product analytics — a record of which app features are used (for example, adding a book or completing a reading session), tied to your account, that we use to improve Book Nook. We do not use third‑party advertising or analytics SDKs, and Book Nook does not show ads.
How we use your information
- To provide the app: save your library, reading progress, points, streaks, purchases, and nook layouts across your devices.
- To create and secure your account and keep you signed in.
- To provide and manage Book Nook Plus subscriptions.
- To respond to your support requests and feedback.
- To maintain, troubleshoot, and improve the app.
- To comply with legal obligations.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for advertising.
How your information is stored and shared
Your data is stored with the service providers below, who process it only to provide their service to us (“processors”):
- Supabase — our backend: database, authentication, and hosting of your account and app data. Account and app traffic may flow through auth.getbooknook.com, Book Nook’s own domain, which points at the same Supabase backend.
- Resend — delivers our emails on our behalf: sign‑up confirmations, password resets, one‑time welcome emails, and optional reading reminders (opt‑in; every reminder includes an unsubscribe link).
- Netlify — hosts our website (getbooknook.com) and stores launch‑waitlist email submissions on our behalf.
- Apple App Store / Google Play — process subscription payments and manage billing.
- Featurebase — powers our feedback and customer‑support features.
- RevenueCat — manages your Book Nook Plus subscription status (it does not receive your payment card details).
- OpenLibrary and Google Books — provide book information (covers, descriptions, details); we send only book identifiers such as titles or ISBNs, not your personal information.
- Readwise — if you choose to connect Readwise, we store your Readwise access token (encrypted) and use it to import your book highlights into your account on your behalf. Your highlights are private to your account.
- DiceBear — generates optional avatar images. Requests contain only an avatar style name and a random string (the "seed") — never your name, email, account ID, or any other personal information.
- Cloudflare — Cloudflare Web Analytics measures how our website (getbooknook.com) performs. It is privacy‑friendly and does not use cross‑site tracking.
We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect the rights, safety, or security of our users or the service, or in connection with a business transfer (e.g., if the app is acquired) — in which case we will require the recipient to honor this policy.
Friends (sharing with other users)
Book Nook has an optional, private friends feature. There are no public profiles and no way to search for users: two people become friends only when both accept, by exchanging friend codes.
- What friends can see: your display name, and — only if you allow it — your reading shelves (books and ratings), your reading stats (streaks, points, books finished), and your decorated nook. Each of these has its own on/off switch in Settings, enforced by our servers.
- Your choice: you can turn any of these off at any time, remove a friend, or block a user (blocking prevents future requests). You can also report a user to us in the app; reports are private to Book Nook.
- Guests: the friends feature requires an account; guest sessions cannot add or be added as friends.
Notifications
Reading reminders and streak alerts are optional local notifications, scheduled on your device. You can turn them on or off in the app’s Settings or in your iOS notification settings. No push token or notification content is sent to Book Nook’s servers.
Cookies
Our website does not use cookies. There is no advertising, no cross‑site tracking, and our visitor analytics (Cloudflare Web Analytics) are cookieless by design — they never identify or follow individual visitors. Because nothing requires your consent, you won't see a cookie banner on this site: there is simply nothing to accept or reject.
Data retention and deletion
We keep your information for as long as your account is active.
- Export: Download a full copy of your data any time in the app: Settings → Download My Data.
- Delete: You can delete your account, which removes your personal account data and associated reading data from our active systems. Backups and legally required records may persist for a limited period before being overwritten. See How to delete your account — including how to request deletion if you can no longer access the app.
- You can also contact us to request access to, correction of, or deletion of your information.
Children’s privacy
Book Nook is for users 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export your personal information, and to object to or restrict certain processing.
- California residents (CCPA/CPRA): You have the right to know what personal information we collect, to request deletion, and to not be discriminated against for exercising these rights. We do not sell or “share” personal information as those terms are defined under California law.
- EU/UK users: Where applicable, our legal bases for processing are performing our contract with you (providing the app), your consent, and our legitimate interests in operating and securing the service.
To exercise any right, contact us using the details below.
Security
We use industry‑standard measures to protect your information, including encrypted connections and hashed passwords, and we rely on our providers’ (e.g., Supabase) security controls. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we work to protect your data.
International users
Book Nook is operated from the United States, and your information is processed there and by our providers. By using the app you understand your information may be processed in the U.S. and other countries where our providers operate.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will update the “Last updated” date above and, for significant changes, provide notice in the app. Continued use after changes means you accept the updated policy.
